Hamdard Pakistan hosts third Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said Awards in Lahore under ‘Wellness Redefined’ theme

Hamdard Pakistan on Thursday held the third edition of the Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said Awards at the Governor’s House in Lahore, recognising contributions to health, education, culture and public service under the theme “Wellness Redefined”. The ceremony, hosted in Lahore for the first time, brought together more than 800 guests, including public officials, academics, professionals and representatives from civil society.

Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan attended the event as chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the importance of acknowledging individuals whose work contributes to knowledge, healthcare and community development, saying that national progress is linked to recognising and supporting excellence across sectors.

The awards are organised in memory of Hakim Mohammed Said, the founder of Hamdard Pakistan, and are positioned by the organisation as part of its broader commitment to public wellbeing. Speaking at the ceremony, Hamdard Pakistan Group Chairperson Sadia Rashid said the awards reflected the founding philosophy of Hamdard, which was established to generate resources that could be reinvested into healthcare, education and social welfare. She said honouring individuals who serve society was consistent with the values of integrity and service associated with the organisation for more than seven decades.

Hamdard Pakistan Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Fatema Munir Ahmed outlined developments within the organisation, describing changes to manufacturing capacity, product diversification and export readiness. She said Hamdard had expanded beyond traditional health products such as medicaments and Rooh Afza into a broader portfolio that now includes beverages, foods and spices. According to Ahmed, the range covers syrups, herbal drinks, cereals, dessert mixes, condiments and recipe mixes, supported by an expanded retail network. She said these initiatives were aimed at making wellbeing solutions more accessible in domestic and international markets.

Hamdard Pakistan Chief Operating Officer Faisal Nadeem Mangroria concluded the formal segment by thanking award recipients, guests, media partners and organisers, and reaffirmed the organisation’s focus on innovation and social impact.

Awards were presented across multiple categories. In Education Excellence, Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary was recognised for contributions to biochemical research with international impact, while Mariam Chughtai received an award for her work in education leadership and academic reform.

The Sports Excellence category honoured Arslan Ash for achievements in international competitive gaming. Squash players Mahnoor Mehwish and Sehrish Ali were also recognised for their performances and for promoting women’s participation in competitive sport.

Digital Influencer Awards were presented to Irfan Junejo and Muhammad Shiraz, with organisers citing their role in developing digital content centred on authenticity, creativity and audience engagement.

The Bravery Award was conferred on Muhammad Ali Swati and Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi in recognition of acts described by organisers as examples of courage and resilience.

In the Health Excellence category, Hakim Abdul Hannan was honoured for efforts to preserve and advance Tibb-e-Unani in contemporary healthcare. Faisal Sultan received an award for leadership in modern medicine and national healthcare, particularly during periods of elevated medical demand.

Awards for Leaders and Social Change Makers were presented to Roshaneh Zafar for work in women’s financial inclusion and to Aslam Khaliq for integrating social impact into corporate practices. The latter award was received on his behalf by Shaista Khaliq.

In Journalism Excellence, Mazhar Abbas was recognised for his work in the media sector. A posthumous award was also presented to Arshad Zuberi for his contributions to journalism and institution-building, with the award received by Shahab Zuberi.

The Literature Award honoured Ghazi Salahuddin, whose message was shared with attendees, and Zehra Nigah for her influence on Urdu literature. Arts and Culture Excellence awards were presented to Tauqeer Nasir and Samina Peerzada for their contributions to theatre, television and mentorship.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred on Seema Aziz for work in education and social development, and on the late Talat Hussain as a cultural figure, with the award received by his daughter Tazeen Hussain.

The event was supported by media partners including Hum TV, Tamasha, MyCo and Mera FM 107. Proceedings concluded with a musical performance by Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, followed by a dinner for award recipients and guests.

Organisers said the Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said Awards 2025 reflected Hamdard Pakistan’s approach of linking commercial activity with social responsibility while recognising individuals whose work contributes to national wellbeing across diverse fields.
