Western weather system likely to bring drizzle to Karachi, rain and snowfall forecast in parts of Balochistan

A western weather system is influencing weather conditions across western Pakistan and is expected to move toward the northern regions from Sunday, bringing light rain and colder conditions to several areas, the Meteorological Department’s Early Warning Centre said.

Under the system’s influence, light rain or drizzle is forecast for coastal areas of Sindh. In Karachi, the Met Office said the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy on Monday, with a chance of drizzle. On Tuesday, cloudy conditions are likely to persist, while mist may form during the morning hours.

Temperatures in Karachi over the next two days are expected to remain moderate, with the minimum hovering around 17 degrees Celsius and the maximum reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius. Northeasterly winds are forecast initially, shifting to south-westerly sea breezes later in the day, according to the department.

Across most parts of Sindh, weather conditions are expected to remain dry, though nights are likely to be cold, the Met Office said.

In Balochistan, the Meteorological Department forecast cold conditions across much of the province, with skies ranging from partly cloudy to overcast. Rain and snowfall over mountainous areas are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Chaman, Qilla Abdullah and Qilla Saifullah.

The department also forecast rainfall in Zhob, Musa Khel, Mastung, Kalat, Turbat, Chaghi, Gwadar and Kharan over the same period.

Temperature readings indicated severe cold in parts of the province. The minimum temperature in Quetta was recorded at 0 degrees Celsius, while Kalat and Ziarat both reported lows of minus 1 degree Celsius. Zhob recorded a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius.

Elsewhere, Sibi recorded a minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius and Turbat 16 degrees Celsius. Nokkundi reported a low of 9 degrees Celsius, while Chaman recorded 6 degrees Celsius. In coastal areas, Gwadar’s minimum temperature was recorded at 13 degrees Celsius and Jiwani at 15 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department said the situation would continue to be monitored as the western system progresses, with further updates to be issued if conditions change.
